Coenzyme Q10 (CoQ10), or ubiquinone is a cofactor which is needed in many metabolic reactions within the body, such as the electron transport chain. Found in virtually all cells of the body, CoQ is mainly situated in the mitochondria, otherwise known as the powerhouses of the cell. Here, CoQ generates the basic energy molecule Adenosine Triphosphate (ATP), which is required for normal cellular functions. CoQ is found in significant amounts in the mitochondria dense organs of the body such as the liver, kidneys and pancreas.
